Elyse and I spend most of our time in the kitchen when we hang out, so we thought we needed matching aprons. We used a Simplicity Retro pattern (#8720) but the design is quite simple and would be easy to do patternless. The prints remind me of Nintendo, or something Japanese. For all things aprony, look at tie one on, and be sure to check out the rick-rack gallery.
These are my felted cat hair beads made from 100% cat fur, grown by my cat, Puma. To do the felting, I used a good tutorial on Crafster to help me. I first dyed the fur with kool-aid and I found full instructions on dying, including a kool-aid color key at knitty.com. I started with a lot of fur, but it was only enough for a handful of beads, so I’m back to harvesting again. It took me all last summer to get enough hair for 13 beads, so hopefully I’ll have a finished product in like a year.
Also, it was a lovely day in Tucson today, so Andrea and I went to the zoo.
My earrings were getting all tangled so I attached a piece of netting (from the bag that apples come in) over the glass on of this cheap picture frame to organize them. It works best for the hook type earrings, but you can stick studs in there too. And, since you can put a picture in it, it doubles as an actual picture frame. For the background I made a little stencil of my sister, who is super cute.
I managed to take a break from “getting crunk” and found some time to make a top. I’ve seen this mini yoke style around, so I thought I’d try it out. I really like the vintage style buttons these days, so I threw it on there to give it a classier feel.
Here are a few photos from our Oscar party, which was quite fun despite having to watch the Oscars for 4 hours. This was our Oscar, who was actually beach Barbie Steven, stripped of his sunglasses and swim trunks.
Jesse and Katherine on the Red Carpet:
The food, prepared by Elyse and I:
The winners, Jordan and Kevin, plus Lydian, who was actually the loser, but we gave him Steven, just for kicks.
We hosted Jen’s going away party last night, so I made a pineapple upside down cake. I got the recipe from Amy Sedaris’ lovely book about entertaining, which is highly recommended. I also made salsa, donuts and cheeseballs. I made a lot of cheeseball so that I could reshape the leftovers into a new ball for another party (as per Amy’s advice), but there wasn’t any left.
I knew the party was a success when this happened:
I want to congratulate Jonny Pulley, one of my best friends ever, for being accepted into the Sundance Film Festival for his short film ”Move Me“. To celebrate this wonderful news, I present you with a rare and terribly low quality clip of Mr. Sundance performing “Jumper” at Glitterfish’sInternational Symposium Dinner Talent Show Soiree that was held last spring (before he got famous). Enjoy.
Also, congratulations to Jason Kelley (DP) and Miguel Jimenez (producer). And thank you to Elyse for providing this wonderful video.
Last night I went to Hank and Heather’s holiday extravaganza complete with a white elephant gift exchange and fire pit. The highlights of the night were Jason stealing back his own gift (a Burt Reynolds triple feature DVD) and Hank yelling “don’t step on the hibiscus!” when the boys started roughhousing outside. I walked away with a pretty sweet basket of candy and movie passes which was pretty good considering there was a fart machine, a calendar of babies dressed up as fruit and a Burt Reynolds triple feature in the mix.
I wanted a winter dress for the party, so I chose this blue patterned dress at goodwill and cut it down to my size. I finished it minutes before we had to leave so I didn’t even have time to hem it. Here are two awkward pictures of me wearing it before and after.
I also made pumpkin cheesecake bars, which were lovely. Jason was especially fond of them. They are easy to make and are highly recommended. The recipe can be found here.
Andrea used to work at one of those paint-your-own-pottery places and when projects were left behind, unwanted or just plain ugly, they usually ended up at our house. This little gem is my personal favorite. I think it’s safe to say that Phil and Laura are no longer. Why else would Phil leave this treasure behind? Whenever I use it, I’m filled with questions. How could such a seemingly perfect relationship go downhill in a matter of days? How could the world’s greatest girlfriend do that to him, that skank? Why did he write “u” like he was using instant messenger? Does Phil really think that pink and red match?
By the time I finish my coffee, I usually come to the conclusion that they were acrobats for the circus and they died together in a freak accident involving the trapeze. This helps me get through the day.
Here are the first bags of a small batch I will be making for my dear friends of The Bodhi Tree. They are an instrumental trio from Phoenix. I hate to classify them because they have so many different sounds, but if I had to, I would say they are like the Mars Volta, but without the pretension. Check out their website and myspace. The bags will be for sale at their cd release show on Dec 9 at the Paperheart.
The other bag I made is big and kinda floppy, so it was difficult to photograph. But, it’s cool, trust me.
